When something goes wrong

That is normal, and almost always easy to fix.

  • It didn’t understand me

Say it a different way, and add a detail. Instead of “Remind me,” say “Remind me to take my pills at 8 tomorrow morning.”

  • The answer is too long

Say “Please make that shorter,” or “Explain that like I’m new to this.”

  • The words are too small

Use the Text size buttons at the top, marked A, A+, and A++. On many computers, hold Ctrl and press + to zoom. On a Mac, use the Command key.

  • Nothing happens when I press send

Check the Wi-Fi. Wait a few seconds. Close the page and open it again. If it still fails, call your helper. You did not break it.

  • I didn’t get my reminder

Check that notifications are on and the sound is not muted. Ask, “What reminders do I have?” If a morning note stops, ask your helper to look for the word Paused.

  • It said it couldn’t do something

Phone calls are not available yet. Some other tasks need a service connected first. Ask, “What would we need to set that up?” and share the answer with your helper.

  • I think it made a mistake

Tell it, “I think that’s not right.” For health, money, and legal papers, always check with a trusted person or the official source.

  • I pressed something by accident

Say “Stop” or “Cancel that.” Anything important needs your yes first.

Phrases that help

  • “Please say that again more simply.”
  • “Make that shorter.”
  • “What should I do next?”
  • “Stop. Don’t do that.”
  • “Can you write that down so I can show my daughter?”
  • “What do you remember about me?”
  • “Please forget that.”

My helper

Fill this in once. It stays on this device. You can print it and keep it by the phone.

In an emergency, call 911. If you are thinking of harming yourself, call or text 988. The assistant cannot do that for you.
