Section 9
Pillar four: Uses, the many ways it can help
You do not need to use all of them. Pick the two or three that sound most useful.
Conversation and companionship
A friendly chat any time of day. It remembers what you like to talk about and asks thoughtful questions.
- “Tell me something interesting that happened on this day in history.”
- “Let’s talk about the old Chevy I used to drive.”
Learning and hobbies
It is never too late to learn. Ask about history, nature, science, music, faith, or a craft.
- “Teach me five words in Italian.”
- “Explain how to start a small herb garden on my windowsill.”
Reading mail and documents
Share a photo of a letter, bill, form, or set of instructions, and it explains it in plain words.
- “What is this letter asking me to do?”
- “Explain my medicine instructions in simple words.”
Reminders and routines
Medicine times, appointments, birthdays, trash day, watering plants, paying bills. Say it once, and it reminds you.
- “Every Tuesday night, remind me to put out the trash.”
- “Send me a good-morning note with my day’s plans.”
Shopping and errands
It can make shopping lists, compare prices, fill a grocery cart, or find a ride, depending on which services were connected. It always waits for your yes before buying or booking.
- “Find me a good pair of slip-on shoes with a wide fit.”
- “Fill my grocery cart with my usual order.”
Family, faith, and community
- “Write a birthday message to my granddaughter Emma. She’s turning 10.”
- “Remind me to call my brother on Saturdays.”
- “Find me Psalm 23.”
- “What’s happening at the senior center this week?”
Entertainment, answers, writing, and memory
- Jokes, riddles, trivia, stories, and music from your favorite era.
- Any question that pops into your head. If it is not sure, it will say so.
- Thank-you notes, sympathy cards, letters, and notes to your doctor’s office, in your own voice.
- Where you put the spare key, a neighbor’s name, and the bigger stories you want to pass on.
