Pillar two: Emotional well-being

Feeling well is also about feeling connected, useful, and at peace.

When the days feel lonely

Many people find that some days are quieter than they would like. It is natural to feel lonely sometimes, especially after losing a spouse, moving, or when family lives far away.

On those days, your assistant can be someone to talk with. You can tell it about your day, share a memory, or ask about something that interests you. It will listen and respond kindly.

Just as importantly, it can help you reach the people you miss. Try saying: “I’m feeling a bit lonely today. Who haven’t I talked to in a while?” It can help you write a note, remind you to call, or suggest a community activity nearby.

A steady routine

  • A morning greeting with the weather and your plans.
  • Reminders for meals, medicine, and a short walk.
  • An afternoon check-in or a puzzle.
  • An evening “how was your day?” chat.

You choose the routine. You can change it any time by just saying so.

Good conversation

Talk about baseball, the old neighborhood, recipes, the Bible, history, gardening, music from your youth. Ask it to tell you a joke, a story, or a poem. It can also help you get ready for conversations with people: “My grandson loves video games. What could I ask him about?”

Encouragement and staying connected

  • Cheer you on as you try something new, and celebrate small wins.
  • Remind you of birthdays and anniversaries.
  • Help you write cards and messages.
  • Let family know you are doing well, if you ask it to.
  • Find clubs, classes, and church activities near you.
  • Help you plan a visit or a family meal.

Sharing your memories

Your life stories are a treasure. Your assistant can help you record them so they are not lost.

  • “Ask me questions about my childhood.”
  • “Help me write down the story of our first house.”
  • “Help me make a list of family recipes with the stories behind them.”

Over time, these can become a lovely keepsake for your children and grandchildren.

Healthy limits

A good sign of healthy use: the assistant helps you spend more time with people, not less.
